Summer Fun FAQs:

  • What is Summer Fun?
    Summer Fun consists of three-week long enrichment courses.
  • Who is it for?
    Summer Fun is for students who are currently in grades 6, 7, 8 and 9.
  • When is it?
    Summer Fun takes place for three weeks in June-July. 2019 dates are June 24 through July 12. No school on July 4.
  • What does it cost?
    Each Summer Fun course costs $250.00
  • Which school districts provide bus transportation?
    Please contact your district transportation office for more information.
  • What programs will be offered?
    Program offerings will include automotive and collision repair, computer art and digital photography, pastry boss, junior chef, crime scene investigation, drawing and painting, art of fashion, world of construction, junior cosmetology and video game programming.
  • How many courses can I take during Summer Fun?
    You may only enroll in one Summer Fun course per student. Each course lasts three weeks.

Summer Fun Art of Fashion
Instructor: Lillian Kirk

Are you a crafty person who is always looking up art and fashion projects on Pinterest?  In Art of Fashion you will explore the different avenues of fashion with projects in clothing and accessory design that often includes upcycling items found in your own home.  You will create useable, wearable handmade items of your own design!  You will learn sewing skills, tie dying and basic embroidery.  A gallery of your designs will be on display for Parents Day, July 12!

Summer Fun Auto Mechanics and Collision Repair
Instructor: Steve Parke/George Stahl/Victoria Penecale

Summer Fun Collision Repair

This course takes you under the hood to find out what makes your family car run and how to keep it looking great. You will learn how to repair car body damage, and how to properly paint fenders, doors and pin stripes. You will work on a variety of automotive systems using the same tools mechanics use.

Summer Fun Computer Art Digital Photography
Instructor: Trisha Simmler-Totaro

Summer Fun Computer Art Digital Photography student works at a computer.

Experience the exciting environment of being a graphic designer and photographer in this class.  You will work with the latest Adobe software programs on our state-of-the-art Macintosh computers.  You will learn how to set up product shoots in our photography studio, as well as photograph portraits both outdoors and in studio.  Students will then work with images photographed and work on advertisements, movie posters and editing portraits in Photoshop.  Macintosh computer experience is not necessary.  Having a digital camera is a plus, but not required.

Summer Fun Crime Scene Investigation
Instructor: Dave Parke

Summer Fun - Crime Scene Investigation

What is it like to be a real Crime Scene Investigators, Police Officer or Firefighter? Experience how detectives locate fingerprints, investigate and assess a crime scene and interview witnesses. Learn the laws and perform the skills of police patrol officers, how they conduct traffic stops and defense techniques. See and feel how it is to wear and use real firefighting equipment. Feel the thrill of leading others, working in pairs and teams.

Summer Fun Drawing and Painting students work with watercolors.If you are serious about your art, this course is designed especially for you. You will work with pen and ink, charcoal, conte crayon, pastels, acrylics or tempera paint and other exciting media. Prerequisite: the desire to draw and an interest in art.

This class will give you an overview of the culinary world as you learn to properly use kitchen equipment and create your own meals. You will show off your new skills in a special reception for your parents so that they can sample your tasty creation on Parents Day, July 12.

Summer Fun World of Construction
Instructor: Doug Wilson

Summer Fun World of Construction students work on a project.

You will work with wood and electricity. You will learn to use some of the same tools and equipment used by professionals in the field. You will build small projects and learn how to install and connect wiring to simulate a room in a house. Enthusiasm and a thirst for doing something new and different is a plus. Come join us! Proper clothing required including long pants and closed-toe shoes.
