EASTERN Design, Photography and Illustration Student Receives Presidential Scholarship from High Point University

Tyson Foggie, DPI

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology/ Cheltenham High School senior, Tyson Foggie, has received a Presidential Scholarship from High Point University in North Carolina, where he plans to dual major in Game Design and Graphic Design.

Tyson has always been artistic, however, his drawing skills were enhanced while spending so much time at home during COVID. Tyson is a talented character designer, and already has a few signature characters. “My goal is to depict underrepresented groups appropriately and accurately in my character designs,” said Tyson.  “I know how much joy it can bring seeing characters that look like you in landscapes where representation is typically not a priority.”

Tyson’s brother is a sophomore at High Point University, so he has become well acquainted with the school through his visits throughout the last two years. He decided to apply, and recently found that he was accepted, and selected for High Point University’s Presidential Scholarship. He interviewed with the Presidential Scholarship Panel and received a top-level scholarship.

“I am so proud of Tyson,” said Nicole Abruzzi, EASTERN’s Design, Photography, and Illustration Instructor. “He is always a professional in the classroom, and has a great deal of talent, focus and ability. This scholarship is such a great honor, and I am looking forward to seeing his bright future unfold over the next few years.”

After graduation from High Point University, Tyson’s ultimate career goals are to find success as a graphic designer or artist for a game studio. He aspires to one day publish manga-inspired graphic novels of his own original stories and characters, ensuring all kinds of backgrounds are depicted.
