    Black History Month Student Spotlight: Joshua Foster, Robotics and Automated Technology

    February is Black History Month. EASTERN is extremely proud of our Black students and alum, and we are celebrating by focusing on our successful students throughout the month. This week’s student spotlight features Joshua Foster, an EASTERN Robotics and Automated Technology/Upper Dublin High School junior, who chose Robotics and Automated Technology after attending an Open House at EASTERN in early March 2020. Although he likes many of EASTERN’s program offerings, he felt as though Robotics and Automated Technology would best prepare him for his future in engineering.

    EASTERN Alumni Spotlight: Dan Kistner, Welding Technology

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) and Hatboro-Horsham High School 2018 graduate, Dan Kistner, has parlayed his eight years of welding experience into teaching welding at the University of Alaska - a position he began in September. While back in the area for the semester break, he came back to EASTERN to speak to the current Welding Technology classes about his career path and experiences.

    EASTERN Veterinary Science Student Chosen as PBS 39 December Artist of the Month

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN)/ Springfield Township High School junior, Kayla Akins, was chosen as the PBS 39 Artist of the Month for December. She began exploring drawing and painting as a way of lifting her spirits and as an outlet for her creativity during the pandemic.

    EASTERN Partners with Bucks County School of Beauty Culture, Inc. to Benefit Cosmetology Students

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove, and Bucks County School of Beauty Culture, Inc. in Feasterville entered into a partnership to benefit EASTERN Cosmetology students who are unable to complete their hours before graduation. Bucks County School of Beauty Culture, Inc. will accept all current cosmetology student transfer hours earned at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology as long as the student possesses a high school diploma.

    EASTERN Students Participate in Fall Leadership Conference

    On November 16-18, 2022, a delegation of 39 SkillsUSA students and four faculty advisors, Nicole Abruzzi, Rebecca Ashworth, Erin Derby, and Eric Martin, along with EASTERN’s Executive Director, Dr. Cathleen Plesnarski, participated in the SkillsUSA Leadership Conference at Kalahari Resorts in Pocono Manor, PA. Approximately 250 students from six different career and technical centers from Bucks, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties attended the District 2 Leadership Conference.

    EASTERN Student Spotlight: Vanessa Hurgunow, Exercise Science and Rehabilitation

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology in Willow Grove started a new program this year – Exercise Science and Rehabilitation. This program provides an in-depth look at the many career opportunities in this field, including how to treat sports-related injuries and provide personal training. Today we are proud to spotlight EASTERN Exercise Science and Rehabilitation first-year student/Upper Moreland High School senior, Vanessa Hurgunow.

    EASTERN and Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences Partner on College Credit Agreement for EASTERN Veterinary Science Program

    Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences in New Brunswick, New Jersey (Rutgers - SEBS) and Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN), signed an articulation agreement, allowing students who complete EASTERN’s Veterinary Science program to earn up to 3 credits for Rutgers-SEBS Animal Science course. EASTERN’s Veterinary Science Instructor, Mrs. Karen McGeehan, is certified in Curriculum in Agriculture Science Education (CASE) for secondary schools, which makes this partnership possible.

Today, we recognize Suzanne Seltzer from EASTERN’s Business and Technology Professional program for her work with Springfield Township High School’s Sustainability Club. She knew the value of using reusable water bottles and lunch bags, but she wanted to find like-minded individuals who also wanted to do more for the environment.

    EASTERN and Pennsylvania College of Technology Partner on College Credit Agreement for two EASTERN Programs – Design, Photography and Illustration, and Protective Services

    Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn College), a national leader in applied technology education and a special mission affiliate of Penn State located in Williamsport, and Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN), signed a pathway agreement, allowing students from two EASTERN high school programs, Design, Photography and Illustration (formerly Commercial Art), and Protective Services, to earn advance credits toward a postsecondary degree program at Penn College.

His family has chosen to start this award to honor Bruce’s memory while assisting a graduating EASTERN Electrical Technology, Construction Technology or Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning senior from Abington or Upper Moreland High Schools as he or she pursues post-secondary education or begins a career in the skilled trades.

    EASTERN and Central Penn College Form Articulation Agreement to Benefit Career and Technical Students

    Central Penn College and Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN), Willow Grove, Pa., entered into a college credit articulation agreement that will benefit students from EASTERN’s Allied Health, Business and Technology Professional, Networking and Cybersecurity, and Protective Services programs. Students can gain credits for Central Penn courses that will lead to an associate or bachelor’s degree at Central Penn College, maximizing transferable credits and translating to cost savings. This credit provision will apply to all Central Penn College locations.

    The Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) is proud of its graduates. They personify EASTERN’s mission to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to craft a college and/or career path. We are proud to spotlight Mr. Matthew Hungerford, 2004 Bishop McDevitt High School/EASTERN Protective Services graduate, who is currently a 16-year veteran of the Cheltenham Police Department. He recently graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Public Safety Administration from Neumann University. He is now pursuing his Master of Jurisprudence in Criminal Law, Constitutional law, and Policy at Liberty University School of Law.
