Student Spotlight: Automotive Technology Student, Sean Hagerty

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Automotive Technology/Upper Stahl-HagertyDublin High School senior, Sean Hagerty, recently won a full scholarship to Universal Training Institute (UTI) in Exton, PA. He received 75 percent of the scholarship for achieving second place in the UTI’s Top Tech Challenge, and received 25 percent scholarship for earning a spot to compete at the Automobile Dealers Association of Greater Philadelphia High School Auto Tech Competition. Sean will compete for potentially more awards and tools of the trade in the hands-on portion of the Automobile Dealers Association of Greater Philadelphia High School Auto Tech Competition on February 26, 2015.

While a sophomore at Upper Dublin High School, Sean had some friends who were attending EASTERN’s Automotive Technology program. Sean always had an interest in cars since his father, Jim, is an automotive technician and graduate of EASTERN’s Automotive Technology program. Sean decided to come to EASTERN for a tour of the facility, and knew Automotive Technology was the right choice for him.

“Automotive Technology at EASTERN has given me a head start on my career, and gave me the opportunity to win a full scholarship to the school of my choice,” said Sean. “The teachers here provide a very professional and real-world work environment, giving us an idea of what the field will actually be like. This is a great opportunity for students who already have a career interest and don’t want to wait to get started on building their skills set and resume.”

UTI was Sean’s first choice for his post-secondary education, and he was thrilled to obtain this scholarship. He plans to focus on Automotive, Diesel and Ford Factory Training.

Automotive Technology at EASTERN is designed for the student who is serious about working in the automotive industry. Career objectives include Automotive Technician Trainee, Under Car Specialist, and New Car Preparation Technician.
