Reopening Update 08-14-2020

Posted Aug 14, 2020

EASTERN Cares logoDear EASTERN Families,

Wednesday evening, the Joint Operating Committee approved EASTERN’s Health and Safety Plan and recommendation to start the school year in a full virtual model through November 4, 2020. This is not the option most parents requested or wanted, but we believe it is the best option we have right now for safely returning our students to school and having consistent instruction. Here is a link to the presentation which shares more details about our virtual option: Presentation of EASTERN’s Health & Safety Plan 2020-2021.pdf

Our districts provide devices to students which can also be used to access their EASTERN coursework online through Microsoft Teams. Instruction will take place during the time our students would normally be with us (AM 7:45-10:30 or PM12:00-2:45). Instruction will be a blend of synchronous and asynchronous learning, with our teachers often teaching directly from their career and technical classrooms so they can demonstrate hands-on skills. The first hour (or more) of each session will be live instruction with our teachers followed by time for guided practice and one-on-one meetings with teachers. The last 15 minutes of each session will be comprised of a full-class check-in.

EASTERN’s first student day is September 9, 2020 and we have a lot to coordinate with you and our students over the next 3 1/2 weeks before school starts. This includes: revising the list of materials/resources needed to start the year for new students; making sure every student has an EASTERN email, username, and password; coordinating a schedule for curbside pickup of materials and resources to help engage our students in hands-on learning; and more. Over the next couple of weeks, you will receive more information. Information sent out to parents is sent through our SchoolMessenger system via email and then posted on here on our website, and linked on our social media (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter).

Thank you for your patience and support.
