EASTERN Alumni Spotlight: Zachary Knapp, Culinary Arts

Zachary Knapp, a 2024 graduate of Abington Senior High School and the Culinary Arts program at the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN), has been awarded a scholarship from the American Culinary Federation's (ACF) Philadelphia Delaware Valley Chefs Association Chapter. Zachary has been accepted to The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, where he will begin his studies in the fall.

Zachary has always had a passion for cooking, which led him to eagerly join the Culinary Arts program at EASTERN when he first learned about it. Reflecting on his experience, Zachary shared, "The best part of my time at EASTERN was making new friends and learning new cooking skills." This program not only fueled his love for the culinary arts but also helped him hone his talents and forge meaningful connections. Now, as he prepares to attend The Culinary Institute of America, Zachary is excited to continue his culinary journey, driven by the skills and friendships he gained at EASTERN.

His instructor, Chef Ben Vozzo, provided applications for students interested in pursuing further education in the culinary field. Knowing that college was a key part of his future plans, Zachary eagerly applied for the opportunity. His hard work and dedication paid off on May 14, 2024, when he was honored with a prestigious scholarship at a special dinner hosted by the American Culinary Federation (ACF). This event celebrated his achievements and marked a significant milestone in his culinary journey, reinforcing his commitment to his craft and his bright future in the industry. On May 22, 2024, Zachary was awarded the Sandy Woerner Memorial Award at EASTERN’s Awards Night.

During the summer months leading up to his start at The Culinary Institute of America, Zachary is diligently working at Crumbl Cookies, both to gain valuable experience and to save money for his future. After completing his culinary program, Zachary plans to serve his country as a member of the Marine Corps. This commitment to service reflects his discipline and dedication, qualities that will no doubt serve him well in the military and beyond. Following his time in the Marines, Zachary dreams of opening his own restaurant, where he can bring his culinary vision to life and share his passion for food with the world.
