Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Automotive Technology/Abington Senior High School 2023 graduate, Paul Lyons, will begin his U.S. Air Force Helicopter Tiltrotor Maintenance Apprenticeship in November. Upon enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in the Spring, Lyons took the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) exam. His ASVAB scores showed that he would be a good fit for several areas, but he narrowed it down to advanced aircraft avionics, helicopter tiltrotors, and compulsion systems. He is excited about being chosen for this apprenticeship and ready to serve his country. As an EASTERN Automotive graduate, he already enjoyed working with his hands and excelled in mechanics.
Providing essential service and maintenance, Helicopter/Tiltrotor Aircraft Maintenance specialists keep these incredibly technical aircraft operating at optimal performance levels. More than just ensuring the aircraft are in working order, these highly trained professionals disassemble and reassemble them for transportation to locations where they are most needed all over the world.
Lyons excelled in his Automotive program at EASTERN. At the May 2023 Award Night, Lyons received the CSM Michael G. Garlanger Scholarship, the Sloane Auto Group Award, and the Straight A Award.
“My time at EASTERN helped me prepare for the Air Force in so many ways,” said Lyons. “I already had tool skills, mechanical skills, and theory on electrical components. I am excited about using my technical skills and learning even more about aircraft. I want to learn to fix them and fly them.”
Lyons plans to make this a 14-year minimum commitment. He also plans to take part in pilot training. After he completes his time in the military, he is interested in working for a Department of Defense Contractor or flying for a commercial or private airline.
