Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) announces a new award honoring the memory of 2016 Electrical Technology/Springfield High School graduate, Luke Gallagher, who passed away suddenly in August 2016. This award is sponsored by the Gallagher family.

This award will be presented annually at EASTERN’s Awards Night by the Gallagher family and Ms. Nicole Peck, to an EASTERN Electrical Technology student who demonstrates pride in the pursuit of mastery of the trade and shows initiative in sharing mastered skills by helping and supporting other students.

Luke was a leader and a role model to other students during his time at EASTERN. During his second year, he served as the Schoolwide Treasurer for EASTERN’s Student Leadership Organization, SkillsUSA. He was a student ambassador who represented his Electrical Technology program at recruitment events at Springfield High School and Springfield Middle School, as well as at EASTERN functions such as Open House. Luke was chosen by his instructor, Gary Felmey, as a paid intern for EASTERN during the summer of 2015 and as the 2015 – 2016 Electrical Technology Occupational Advisory Committee student representative. When he wasn’t interning, he volunteered his time as a Summer Fun World of Technology Student Teacher. He was honored as the November 2015 Student of the Month and leaves behind a legacy of dedication, hard work and friendship.

Outside of EASTERN, Luke was a long-time student at the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts and a member of their performing Youth Troupe. He developed his many circus talents enough to perform as part of the Troupe at events such as the World Circus Summit and the Philadelphia Juggling Festival and as a paid performer at miscellaneous gigs including the Borgata Hotel Casino. He was also a member of Team Pariah Parkour, a Philadelphia-based family of free runners. Luke was known for his tireless efforts in mastering the next skill, his encouragement of others, and his willingness to help them achieve their best.
