Alumni Spotlight: Juan Paolo Figueras

Juan Paolo Figueras, former CNA student at EASTERNEastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 2014 Computer Network Administration/Springfield Township High School graduate, Juan Paolo Figueras (Paolo) is currently studying Computer Engineering at Penn State Abington and plans to matriculate to Temple University next year to complete his degree.

While attending EASTERN’s Computer Network Administration program in high school, Paolo was chosen as the September 2013 Student of the Month. He was also chosen as one of only 25 students selected throughout the nation to participate in the Congress-Bundestag program. The Congress-Bundestag Vocational Scholarship provides an opportunity for U.S. high school graduates who have undertaken vocational training to spend their 13th year abroad pursuing their vocational interests. This scholarship is provided through NACEL Open Door, Inc. Nacel Open Door, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to international understanding and language education. After extensive German language training, Paolo was placed in an internship at Targot Bank as Desktop Support.

Paolo took advantage of the dual enrollment partnership between EASTERN’s Computer Network Administration program and Montgomery County Community College in which Paolo earned 12 transferable college credits while still in high school.

“The opportunities that EASTERN provided me prepared me well for college and my study abroad experience,” said Paolo. “I earned several industry certifications from the Computer Network Administration program and gained a true confidence in my career path.”

Students in EASTERN’s Computer Network Administration program must pass the Certified Linux Administrator (CLA) exam in the first year of the program and are prepared for other industry certification exams, including Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician.
