Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 2013 Allied Health/Lower Moreland High School alum, Isabella Andre, is now a full-time geriatric nurse at a comprehensive retirement community in Holland, PA. In June, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Holy Family University where she was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society. She is also a member of EASTERN’s Allied Health Occupational Advisory Committee, which is a group of local industry professionals who volunteer their time to assist EASTERN’s instructors and administrators to keep the curriculum state-of-the-art.
Andre knew that helping others was going to be part of her future career choice. When Andre was in tenth grade at Lower Moreland High School, she visited EASTERN to check out the career and technical programs that they offer to Eastern Montgomery County high school juniors and seniors. She visited the Allied Health program and wanted to learn more about a career in healthcare. She enrolled and after experiencing her first day of clinical at Abington Jefferson Health, she knew she wanted to be a nurse.
“Allied Health at EASTERN helped me narrow down what type of healthcare professional I wanted to become by showing me the roles of each member of the healthcare team in the clinical setting,” said Andre. “I would encourage prospective students to keep an open mind throughout Allied Health. It is meant to expose students to all areas of the healthcare field, not just nursing. If you are interested in working in the medical field, then commit to Allied Health and take every clinical opportunity you can.”
Allied Health at EASTERN is designed for high school seniors who plan to continue their education in college to prepare for a career in the health field. Students get extensive clinical experiences partnering with health professionals at Abington-Jefferson Health and earn three college credits from Montgomery County Community College.
