EASTERN’s Distance Learning and Industry-Standard Certifications I

Barbacide certifications attained by Cosmetology students.The Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) is dedicated to the continuity of learning during this unprecedented time. All of EASTERN’s career and technical high school programs are using various online learning platforms to effectively teach their students in the most productive manner possible. This includes the attainment of industry-standard certifications whenever possible. Several certification options are detailed below.

The Automotive Technology program has moved forward with online Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification, which is a certification process that assesses the knowledge and capabilities of automotive mechanics against a set of standards delineated by a panel of national experts. Automotive Technology are also currently working toward their online Ford ACE certification through a training website that gives students a pathway to receive Ford Certified training in order to be ready to work at a Ford dealership. Courses include History of the Ford Motor Company, Ford employee ethics expectations, customer service, engine rebuilding, electrical, wi-fi, etc.

The Collision Repair Technology students are earning Collision Repair certification through the 3M Collision Repair Academy, which consists of online courses based on real-world repair situations and how to produce consistent, high-quality results in the ever-changing collision repair industry. Students are also working on the online portion of the PPG Refinishing Online Learning Academy, Automotive Refinishing Certification. PPG is the industry’s most comprehensive online training program for automotive and commercial refinishing systems and repair processes.

The Welding Technology students are working on their Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour safety certification. Welding Technology and Construction Technology students are also pursuing their Safety and Pollution Prevention (S/P2) certification.

The Cosmetology students are preparing for an online color certification called Pravana Color, which is four part online professional color certification. To date, 46 Cosmetology students have attained Barbacide certification for professional beauty and barber disinfection.

The Networking and Cybersecurity students are taking the TestOut class for Windows Server 2016 Install and Storage, for they which they will receive a certification at the end of the semester. The certification exam measures an examinee’s ability to perform real-world tasks using the Windows Server 2016 operating system.

The Veterinary Science students are working on their OSHA 10-hour training for healthcare. Students are continuing with the Vet Science curriculum, including the immune system, viruses, zoonotic disease, and vaccination.

Certifications are a great benefit of career and technical education, and our instructors are working with their industry partners to still offer these opportunities.”
