Dear EASTERN Community,
I hope this update finds you healthy and safe at home. Earlier today, Governor Wolf announced that all schools in Pennsylvania will be closed for the next two weeks. We are still working with our districts to determine the return date and schedule for our students. When that information becomes available, we will let you know. Governor Wolf also extended his cancellation of state-mandated tests to include the NOCTI exam. The NOCTI is Career and Technical Education’s version of the Keystone exams, except half of the assessment is performance-based and requires demonstrating occupational competency in the field of study and is evaluated by our local employer partners. This exam, given to seniors completing our programs, will not take place this school year.
Our teachers and staff have been working diligently to develop a continuity of education plan so learning doesn’t need to stop during these unprecedented times. Our teachers are ready to offer continuity of learning for the week of March 30th (and longer, if the situation warrants). Last week, I asked parents to ask their child to log onto their EASTERN email to check for updates from their program teachers. If they had problems logging on, they were asked to email their teacher. Thank you for the support in making this happen. Our goal last week was to prepare learning for our students and identify and remove barriers. For those students who reported issues accessing online content, our team will be mailing materials to your home later this week.
Thank you for your continued support and patience during this time. Wishing you all good health.
