Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 2018 Cosmetology/Hatboro-Horsham High School alumna, Chelsey West, attends West Chester University as a dual major in English Secondary Education and Special Education. She also works as a stylist at Salon 463 in Horsham during breaks from school and summers. With her Cosmetology license and the skills she acquired while at EASTERN, she is able to help support her education while doing something she loves.
Through EASTERN, high school juniors and seniors who reside in Eastern Montgomery County have the opportunity to complete the 1,250 documented class hours required to qualify them to take their Cosmetology license exam. Cosmetology has always been West’s passion and she wanted to explore the field as soon as possible. After some research, she was pleased to find that the Cosmetology program at EASTERN was an option available through her public education.
“Attending EASTERN was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Not only has it allowed me to become a master at my craft, but I have learned valuable lessons that I will carry on throughout my life,” said West. “I have never seen a school system that takes more pride in its students than EASTERN. Through the constant support and care from the staff and my peers, I was able succeed mentally, physically and educationally. I have grown tremendously and am proud of the person I am today, because of EASTERN.”
The Cosmetology program at EASTERN provides the skills necessary to begin a career in the cosmetology field. In Pennsylvania, as well as other states, cosmetologists must be licensed to practice in the field. After obtaining a cosmetology license, graduates can find opportunities in occupations such as a stylist, salon management, teaching, product representation, and development and design.
