Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Culinary Arts/Upper Moreland High School senior, Shane Stone, has been accepted to Paul Smith’s College, a private college located in Paul Smiths, N.Y. He will be continuing his education in the Culinary Arts & Service Management program. He has also been recruited to play basketball for the school.

Complementing his culinary education Shane received at EASTERN, his program at Paul Smith’s College will include advanced culinary techniques, emerging trends in nutrition, sanitation and food service operations, sensory perceptions of flavors, aromas, plate presentations and ambiance, marketing, sales and customer service, research, development and leadership.

Growing up, Shane always looked up to his stepbrother, who was a personal chef for the Jamaican reggae group, Inner Circle. He saw how good his stepbrother was at his job and how much he enjoyed cooking. In 10th grade at Upper Moreland High School, Shane visited the Culinary Arts program at EASTERN and was excited about taking steps toward his future career while in high school.

“EASTERN offers the opportunity for students to learn in a real-world environment,” said Shane. “I think of it as a job combined with career-focused education. Every day I come to work to refine my culinary skills.”

In addition to his passion for cooking, Shane is a gifted athlete. He transitioned from football to basketball in ninth grade and never looked back. He is currently for forward, and sometimes guard, for the Upper Moreland High School basketball team.

He visited the Paul Smith’s College campus and was impressed by the Chef, the basketball team and coach. Shane was thrilled upon acceptance, as the college is well-known for its exemplary Culinary Arts program and excellent basketball team.

After graduation from Paul Smith’s College, Shane hopes to work in Philadelphia at a fast-paced restaurant. Eventually, he would like to move into the fine dining area of the restaurant business.
