EASTERN Students Hold Charity Bake Sale

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Commercial Art/Abington High School senior, Anita Gallagher, along with the help of EASTERN SkillsUSA School-Wide Officers, organized a bake sale for Friday, March 13, 2015. Four hundred dollars in proceeds will benefit Blessings in a Backpack – an organization that provides elementary schoolchildren who are on the federal Free and Reduced Price Meal Program with a backpack of food to take home for 38 weekends during the school year. Backpack food includes easy-to-prepare, ready-to-eat foods, like granola bars, juice boxes, mac and cheese, and oatmeal.

Anita is the SkillsUSA Pennsylvania State Secretary. SkillsUSA is EASTERN’s student leadership organization and a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. Each year, SkillsUSA’s Pennsylvania chapter chooses a charity to support, and Blessings in a Backpack was chosen for the 2014 – 2015 school year.

“Combined with fundraisers held throughout the year, we were able to raise $900 for Blessings in a Backpack,” said Anita. “We could not have been as successful without the support of and donations made by EASTERN students, staff and faculty.”
