EASTERN Alumni Spotlight: Ashley Lademann, Culinary Arts

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 2018 Culinary Arts/Abington Senior High School alumna Ashley Lademann is now currently attending Johnson and Wales University in pursuit of her associate degree in Culinary Arts with a graduation date set for May 2020. During a quick spring break from college, Lademann visited EASTERN’s Culinary Arts program to see her teachers and speak to the current Culinary Arts class.

Lademann always had a knack for cooking. She grew up working in the kitchen, as both of her parents are in the restaurant business. She found out about EASTERN’s Culinary Arts program through an EASTERN presentation at her high school. With the support of her parents and high school counselor, she enrolled in the program and quickly became a leader in the class.

She chose to continue her education at Johnson and Wales University since it is one of the top culinary schools in the country and because both her parents are alumni. She obtained an internship this summer for the Walt Disney World Company and will be working at the Kona Cafe from the beginning of June through the end of August.

“The most valuable aspect of my education at EASTERN was that I was able to experience and learn new things in the kitchen, said Lademann. “The instructors are professionals in the field with years of experience in the food service industry. If you think you might be interested in cooking or baking – go for it! You may find out it is not for you, and that is ok too. There are 14 career and technical programs available to high school juniors and seniors.”

Build your culinary skills and techniques at EASTERN so you can compete in this field. Students also have the potential to earn up to nine transferable college credits through a statewide articulation agreement with Montgomery County Community College. This two-year half-day program enables students to acquire a variety of skills including soup and sauce preparation, preparation of meat, fish and poultry entrees, baking, kitchen sanitation, purchasing and inventory controls.
