On February 7, 2011, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Collision Repair Technology and Commercial Art students received a presentation and air brush demonstration by Richard Markham, nationally-renowned airbrush artist, as part of Ohio Technical College’s (OTC) Evolution of Life Road Show, a live airbrush demonstration that tours high schools and events around the country. Markham is also an instructor for OTC’s Custom Paint and Graphics program. For the road show, he travels in an 80-foot tractor trailer that OTC has transformed into a mobile classroom complete with practice paint stations and school videos. In addition, the truck is used to transport some of Richard’s projects, such as, the 2000 Toyota Celica Ice Car.

Markham, a native of Massachusetts, began drawing at seven years old. Twenty-two years ago he was air brushing t-shirts and license plates, until he saw the money to be made in car and motorcycle airbrushing. As a self-taught airbrush artist, Markham developed his own strategy for teaching airbrushing to those with little artistic ability. He provided EASTERN students tips and tricks to help enhance their technique.
EASTERN’s Collision Repair Technology program provides students with a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience needed to carry out repairs on motor vehicles. Students benefit from the use of I-Car (Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair) enhanced curriculum.
EASTERN’s Commercial Art program covers everything from conceptual drawing and design to a professional portfolio. Students learn the value and application of their unique styles in both design and illustration, and students use industry standard software on the Macintosh platform. This software includes QuarkXpress, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash.
