EASTERN Student Spotlight – Sean Haley, Collision Repair Technology

Sean Haley is a Collision Repair Technology student at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove and a senior at Upper Moreland High School. When Sean was in tenth grade, he spoke to a classmate who attended EASTERN for Collision Repair Technology, and since he always had an interested in cars, he decided to give it a try. Coming from a family of electricians, Sean wanted to branch out and break the mold.

Throughout the year, Sean has maintained an A average in Collision Repair Technology, and as a senior, obtained a paid internship at Bryner Chevrolet in Jenkintown. Through this internship, he works at Bryner during his EASTERN class time on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, earning money and high school credits. He hopes to be hired on a full-time basis upon graduation.

Sean received first place in the SkillsUSA local competition for Body Work in December 2010, and competed in the District Competition held in February. Last June, Sean was one of seven EASTERN Collision Repair Technology students recognized by the All Divisions Detachment, Marine Corps League for their efforts in restoring their military truck. During this four-month project, the students performed extensive body work and repainted the vehicle. The Marine Corps League uses this vehicle for parades and charitable events such as Toys for Tots.

“Although I enjoy body work in general, my favorite aspect of the class in using the new, state-of-the-art frame rack and straightening car frames,” said Sean. “I want to continue in the Collision Repair field and hope to eventually work for a dealership or on high end vehicles.”

At Upper Moreland high School, Sean is on the football team. He also enjoys baseball and ultimate Frisbee.

Student enrolled in the two-year half-day Collision Repair Technology program benefit from a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience needed to carry out repairs on motor vehicles. Students benefit from the use of I-Car (Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair) enhanced curriculum.
