Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 2007 Electronics Engineering Technology/Abington High School graduate, Kyle Bentley, works as a contractor for NASA through Orbital Sciences. For the past year, Bentley has worked on NASA’s propulsion systems for satellites.
Bentley, who relocated to Maryland for his position at Orbital Sciences, is currently working on two
projects for NASA – the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Satellite, and the Magnetopheric
Multiscale (MMS) Satellite. GPM is set to launch in 2014 from Japan through Jaxa. At that time,
Bentley will be in Japan for six months assisting with the fueling system. For MMS, NASA is building
four identical spacecraft which are also scheduled to launch in 2014.
In October 2007, Bentley started working at Two Technologies in Horsham as an electronic assembler.
He worked for Two Technologies through December 2010 and used this job opportunity to learn as
much as he could and to enhance his resume. He had been hoping to work for NASA since high school
- he just needed to find the right contractor. His uncle was a Materials Engineer for NASA, and his
father worked for Orbital Sciences, so he familiarized himself with both organizations. Last year, after
applying several times over the years - the first time while still in high school - he landed the position at
Orbital Sciences.
“I love airplanes. While I was at EASTERN I was also working on getting my pilot’s license. I also
loved electronics because of my program at EASTERN,” said Bentley. “I decided to pursue a career
that mixes aviation and electronics, so I chose the aerospace industry. When it comes to work ethic,
problem solving skills, and skills that are universal to life, I credit my success in those areas to
EASTERN. I don’t think I would have the confidence that I have now without EASTERN. EASTERN
provided so many opportunities to succeed.”
EASTERN’s Electronics Engineering Technology program is designed for students to achieve success in electronics or engineering-related courses. This program prepares the student for success in such career fields as telecommunications, security system design, facility and product management, teaching and electrical engineering.
