EASTERN Alumnus Spotlight: Commercial Art Grad, Joel Francis – Tyler School of Art, Temple University

Joel FrancisJoel Francis, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Commercial Art alumnus and 2006 Springfield Township High School graduate is beginning his senior year at Tyler School of Art, Temple University.  He is pursuing his Bachelor’s in Digital Media, and currently holds an Associates of Fine Arts from Montgomery County Community College with a concentration in digital media.  In tenth grade, Joel chose to attend the  Commercial Art program at EASTERN because he already knew that he wanted to pursue a professional career in graphic and digital media, and that EASTERN would provide him with a head start.

Joel enjoyed and excelled in many areas of Commercial Art, such as, developing ideas and themes, setting up photography shoots, and perfecting computer imaging and design for advertisements.  Today, he is finishing up an internship at the Kimmel Center, and is looking forward to his college graduation.   After graduation, he plans to work in the field of graphic, digital and mixed media. Last summer Joel traveled through Europe and enjoyed the experience so much that he plans to return and capture, through digital photography, the essence of the different cultures and ancient architecture.

“EASTERN prepared me for college by teaching and introducing the necessary skills to be successful in the field of commercial art,” said Joel.  “My advice to potential EASTERN students, who are considering the Commercial Art program, is to take advantage of the quality education provided by the excellent instructors. Secondly, draw lots of sketches repeatedly and continuously.  Lastly, always save your work through a 500 GB external hard drive or other means.”
