Bryan Neuhauser is a Culinary Arts student at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove and a senior at ATG Learning Academy in Warminster. Bryan’s senior project was the organization and implementation of a fundraiser to benefit the Pennsylvania Tourette Syndrome Alliance, Inc. This fundraiser was held at EASTERN on March 31. Bryan raised $2,400 and welcomed over 70 guests. The event also included a silent auction with items such as Phillies tickets, a signed Flyers hockey puck, and gift certificates to salons and restaurants.
Bryan chose the Pennsylvania Tourette Syndrome Alliance, Inc. because he was diagnosed with the disorder at age 10. First, he worked with his instructors, Chefs Gary Albert and Joel Marucheck, to determine the date of the event and the buffet menu. As the event neared, Bryan and his classmates prepared food for the event and set up EASTERN’s Restaurant. Many of Bryan’s classmates volunteered their time in making the event a success.
“The Tourette Syndrome Alliance has helped me to explain what Tourettes is and tell people about it. This was my way of giving back to them for all of the assistance they have given me over the years,” said Bryan.
Bryan was always interested in cooking, so he decided to visit EASTERN and visit a few different programs, but ultimately decided to pursue Culinary Arts. Next year he plans to attend the Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College for Restaurant and Hotel Management. After college graduation, he plans to move to the Miami Beach area to work in one of the many hotels/restaurants.
The Pennsylvania Tourette Syndrome Alliance’s mission is to identify and support the needs of and advocate for individuals with Tourette Syndrome in Pennsylvania, and to promote awareness of Tourette Syndrome through informational outreach and educational presentations. They are located in historic Gettysburg, PA at 132 W. Middle Street. Contact them within Pennsylvania at 1-800-990-3300 or by email to info@patsainc.org.
