    Men In Nursing

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) offers a Practical Nursing Program for adults (18 years of age and older.)    A career in nursing provides both men and women with a career that is flexible and personally and financially rewarding. EASTERN’s Practical Nursing classes are available during the day on a one-year full-time basis, or two evenings a week and every other weekend for the two-year part-time program. Classes meet on our Terwood Road campus or at satellite locations in Ambler, Royersford and Harleysville. Read more >>

    Alumnus Spotlight: Aaron Kuhn

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Computer Network Administration (CNA) 2000 alumnus, and former Technology Management Systems Intern, Aaron Kuhn, is a QA Engineer for Fiberlink Communications headquartered in Blue Bell. In this position, Kuhn has used his knowledge and skills learned at EASTERN to administer network systems for Fiberlink's software testing and development groups, including management of security management systems as well as testing of mobile device management software for smartphones.     Students Win Medals

    Twenty-nine students from Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove won medals in skill areas or leadership at the SkillsUSA District Competitions held February 9, 2011 at Bucks County Technical High School. Students from Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties took part. Winners of gold medals will compete at the state level in Hershey, PA this coming April. SkillsUSA is a national student leadership organization that encourages students to be productive individuals in our democratic society, work to their potential, become responsible, and be proud of their accomplishments and supportive of their community.     EASTERN Student Receives $15,000 Scholarship to DeVry University

    On February 17, 2011, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Electronics Engineering Technology student and Upper Moreland High School senior, Scott Paripsky, was presented with a Herman DeVry Scholarship Award and DeVry Start Now Scholarship worth approximately $15,000 in total. John Shreiner, DeVry University Educational Advisor, visited Scott’s EASTERN classroom in order to make the presentation. Scott plans to attend DeVry as a full-time student next year to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology. In the meantime, Scott is already getting a head start on his college career by taking an online course. Read more >>

    EASTERN Students Receive Air Brush Demo from Richard Markham – Ohio Technical College

    On February 7, 2011, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Collision Repair Technology and Commercial Art students received a presentation and air brush demonstration by Richard Markham, nationally-renowned airbrush artist, as part of Ohio Technical College’s (OTC) Evolution of Life Road Show, a live airbrush demonstration that tours high schools and events around the country. Markham is also an instructor for OTC’s Custom Paint and Graphics program. For the road show, he travels in an 80-foot tractor trailer that OTC has transformed into a mobile classroom complete with practice paint stations and school videos. In addition, the truck is used to transport some of Richard’s projects, such as, the 2000 Toyota Celica Ice Car. Read more >>

    Protective Services Students Receive Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Demo

    On March 9, 2011, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Protective Services students received a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) demonstration by John Major, Safety Equipment Specialist for the Fire Store (www.thefirestore.com). Mr. Major was also a volunteer firefighter for 31 years, and retired in 2008 as chief for a volunteer fire company in Royersford. The Protective Services program acquired a budget through its program review process to purchase 10 new SCBA, which includs a mask, harness, and air cylinder manufactured by MSA. MSA is the global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of sophisticated products that protect people's health and safety. Read more >>

    1981 EASTERN Grad Gives Back

    On March 9, 2011, 1981 Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Automotive Technology graduate, Don Schnell, volunteered his time as one of EASTERN’s National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) evaluators. Schnell is also a member of EASTERN’s Automotive Occupational Advisory Committee, and recently obtained a $750 scholarship for the EASTERN Foundation through his employer, Verizon. He credits EASTERN and his automotive instructors for giving him a head start on his career, and has done a great deal over the years to give back to EASTERN. Read more >>

    Pennsylvania Department of Education Awards EASTERN Certificate of Achievement

    On March 3, 2011, the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Administrative Director, Tom Allen, was presented with a Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Certificate of Achievement for EASTERN’s student base exceeding the expected PDE increase in occupational skill attainment. This presentation was conducted at the 21st Annual Pennsylvania Association of Career and Technical Administrators (PACTA) Symposium in Hershey. This certificate was given to EASTERN in recognition of the 13 percent increase from the previous year in the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) exam scores. Thirteen percent was the PDE’s benchmark for improvement. Read more >>

    EASTERN Cosmetology Student Organizes Hair Clinic to Benefit Abington Memorial Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

    On Saturday, March 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Carissa Kemmerling, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Cosmetology student and Abington High School senior, is holding a hair clinic at EASTERN’s Terwood Road campus. All proceeds will benefit Abington Memorial Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This event is open to the public for a reasonable cost and a worthy cause. Shampoo and style is $7; scalp treatment is $10; haircut and style is $13; manicures are $6; rejuvenating facial is $7; eyebrow wax is $5; lip wax is $4; tweezing is $5; single process coloring services are $15; double process is $20; permanent wave is $16; partial highlights are $17; full highlights are $25; and cap highlights are $14.     EASTERN Instructor/Alumnus Earns Master Photographer Certification

    In February 2011, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Commercial Art photography Instructional Aide and 1986 graduate, Robert Steinbacher, attained his Accredited Master Photographer (AMP) certification through the International Freelance Photographers Organization (IFPO). Steinbacher joined EASTERN’s faculty in 1995 bringing a broad background in commercial photography and multi-media. His areas of expertise are commercial photography and portraiture, forensics/fire scene photography and medical photography. Read more >>

    Student Spotlight – Aliyah Lustine

    Aliyah Lustine is a Commercial Art student at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove and a senior at Cheltenham High School. EASTERN chose Aliyah as its October 2010 Student of the Month. At Cheltenham, she was the October 2008 and October 2010 Student of the Month. Aliyah is already an accomplished photographer and graphic artist, with a growing portfolio of both photography and graphic design work . Read more >>

    EASTERN Commercial Art Student Earns Presidential Scholarship to Moore College of Art & Design

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Commercial Art/Upper Moreland High School senior, Nichole Hamilton, recently received a Presidential Scholarship from Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia. Nichole will receive $11,000 per year while pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration with a minor in Fashion Design — a total of $44,000 throughout all four years. This prestigious merit award was based on Nichole’s academic and artistic excellence. Read more >>

    EASTERN Student Graduates with 29 College Credits

    Jason Meleco is a Computer Network Administration student at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove and a senior at Lower Moreland High School. In June, he will graduate from EASTERN and Lower Moreland High School with 29 credits from Montgomery County Community College (MCCC); this includes 12 credits from dual enrollment through his EASTERN Computer Network Administration program, and an additional 17 credits from courses he has taken on his own. Classes Jason has completed include Cisco I, Linux, Microsoft Server, Novell, PC Applications, PC Maintenance, Management, English, Math, and Golf. Read more >>

    EASTERN’s Culinary Arts Program Receives ACFEF Secondary Re-certification

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology’s (EASTERN) Culinary Arts program was recently re-certified by the Secondary Certification Committee of the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF) Accrediting Commission. The Secondary Certification Committee has given EASTERN a Grant of Certification beginning December 31, 2010, not to exceed December 31, 2015. This certification was first granted in 2008 after an in-depth review of the facility, and the program’s processes and procedures. ACFEF certification is a symbol of professionalism and a guide by which any culinarian can shape his or her career. Read more >>

    EASTERN Students Win Gold and Silver Medals at SkillsUSA State Competition

    Twenty-two students from Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove competed in their skill areas or with their leadership proficiency at the SkillsUSA State Competitions held April 6, 7 and 8 at the Hershey Convention Center. Students from Pennsylvania took part in the competition. Gold medal winners will represent EASTERN at the national-level competitions to be held June 20 - 24 in Kansas City, Missouri. SkillsUSA is a national student leadership organization that encourages students to be productive individuals in our democratic society, work to their potential, become responsible, be proud of their accomplishments and supportive of their community.     EASTERN Student Spotlight – Sean Haley, Collision Repair Technology

    Sean Haley is a Collision Repair Technology student at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove and a senior at Upper Moreland High School. When Sean was in tenth grade, he spoke to a classmate who attended EASTERN for Collision Repair Technology, and since he always had an interested in cars, he decided to give it a try.     Exchange Students from France Visit EASTERN

    On April 8, 2011, 22 high school students from Lycée Léonard de Vinci in Saint Germain en Laye, a suburb of Paris, accompanied by two of their teachers, Gwenaelle Rey and Guillaume Pinaud, visited the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) for an overview of the school, a tour and a typical American lunch including pulled pork, corn on the cob, and corn bread prepared by EASTERN’s Culinary Arts students. This visitation was possible through a partnership with Jenkintown High School, which hosts the students and places them with local families for two weeks in April. The Jenkintown students will go to France next year and will be hosted by the visitors' families. Read more >>

    Alumnus Spotlight – Tony Nolte Recognized by U.S. Air Force with Teamwork Award

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Automotive Technology and Upper Moreland High School alumni, Tony Nolte, has been an Airman in the U.S. Air Force since November. Nolte has been stationed in Port Hueneme in Oxnard, California since his enlistment. While in Port Hueneme, Nolte has been attending the U.S. Construction Training Center’s Interservice Mechanical Apprentice Course for Automotive Technology, and was recently awarded the “Teamwork Award.” This award was granted to Nolte in recognition of his dedication and aggressive pursuit of excellence through teamwork.     Student Spotlight – Mark Tournier, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning

    Mark Tournier is a Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) student at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove and a senior at Springfield Township High School. At EASTERN’s Awards Night in May, Mark will receive awards from both the Springfield Rotary Award and the Eastern Montgomery County Regional Testing Center due to his outstanding achievement at EASTERN. In addition, Mark recently received a partial scholarship to CHI Institute in Broomall. Read more >>

    Alumnus Spotlight: Lou Raggi, Owner of Lou’s Electric Services

    In June 2011, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Electrical Technology alumnus, Lou Raggi, stepped down from EASTERN’s Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC) after 29 years of dedicated service. Raggi, Owner of Lou’s Electric Services in Glenside, PA, was a 1968 graduate of EASTERN and Bishop McDevitt High School. Two of Raggi’s sons, Lou Jr., and Michael, attended EASTERN for Electrical Technology and Protective Services respectively, and his son, Rob, currently teaches the Electrical Apprenticeship program at night for EASTERN’s Continuing Education program. Raggi made the difficult decision to step down from EASTERN’s OAC to spend more quality time with his grandchildren - Robbie, four years; Joseph, 3 years; Madeline, 1 year; and Rebecca, five months.     Bryan Neuhauser, Culinary Arts Student Holds Benefit for Pennsylvania Tourette Syndrome Alliance, Inc.

    Bryan Neuhauser is a Culinary Arts student at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove and a senior at ATG Learning Academy in Warminster. Bryan’s senior project was the organization and implementation of a fundraiser to benefit the Pennsylvania Tourette Syndrome Alliance, Inc. This fundraiser was held at EASTERN on March 31. Bryan raised $2,400 and welcomed over 70 guests. The event also included a silent auction with items such as Phillies tickets, a signed Flyers hockey puck, and gift certificates to salons and restaurants. Read more >>

    Erin Cain is a Culinary Arts student at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove and a senior at Abington Township High School. At EASTERN’s Awards Night on May 24 she was recognized for achieving Straight A’s throughout the year, she received the Abington High School Alumni Award, and was the third recipient of the Christopher Laroche Memorial Award.     EASTERN Recognized 115 Student at May Awards Ceremony

    On Tuesday, May 24, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) recognized 115 student for their achievements with $34,900 awarded in the form of scholarships, tools of the trade, plaques, certificates and checks. The event recognized students who are on the honor roll, Students of the Month through the year, medal winners at SkillsUSA District and State Competitions, winners of special end-of-year awards, and those who have perfect attendance. Approximately 500 individuals attended EASTERN's Awards Program held at the Upper Moreland High School auditorium. Read more >>

    EASTERN Alumnus Spotlight: Commercial Art Grad, Joel Francis – Tyler School of Art, Temple University

    Joel Francis Joel Francis, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Commercial Art alumnus and 2006 Springfield Township High School graduate is beginning his senior year at Tyler School of Art, Temple University.  He is pursuing his Bachelor’s in Digital Media, and currently holds an Associates of Fine Arts from Montgomery County Community College with a concentration in digital media.  In tenth grade, Joel chose to attend the  Commercial Art program at EASTERN because he already knew that he wanted to pursue a professional career in graphic and digital media, and that EASTERN would provide him with a head start.     EASTERN Computer Network Administration Alumnus Spotlight: George Beech

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 2001 Computer Network Administration/Jenkintown High School graduate, George Beech, is currently running the server and network infrastructure for a start up in New York City called Stack Exchange (http://stackexchange.com). Stack Exchange, serving more than 20 million visitors per month, is a fast-growing network of 63 question and answer sites on diverse topics from software programming to cooking to photography and gaming. They are an expert knowledge exchange: a place where physics researchers can ask each other about quantum entanglement, computer programmers can ask about JavaScript date formats, and photographers can share knowledge about taking great pictures in the snow.     EASTERN Student Spotlight: Natasha Mangino – Landscape Contracting

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Landscape Contracting/Springfield Township High School junior, Natasha Mangino, is currently the one female student enrolled in EASTERN’s Landscape Contracting program. This two-year half-day program prepares students to successfully design, present and implement landscape projects; climb, prune and repair trees; manage all facets of property/grounds maintenance; and greenhouse management.     EASTERN Welding Technology Alumnus Spotlight: Justin Dillalogue

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 1998 Welding Technology/Abington High School graduate, Justin Dillalogue, works for Local 1456 as a Commercial Diver. As a union worker, Dillalogue works for many different companies on a project-by-project basis. Currently, his work has him in Manhattan rehabilitating a pier at Fulton Fish Market at South Street Seaport. After the pier is rehabilitated, the Fulton Fish Market, which is a historic landmark, can once again be used for public use. Read more >>

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 2007 Electronics Engineering Technology/Abington High School graduate, Kyle Bentley, works as a contractor for NASA through Orbital Sciences. For the past year, Bentley has worked on NASA’s propulsion systems for satellites. Read more >>

    EASTERN Welding Technology Alumnus Spotlight: John Devlin Cerino

    Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 2011 Welding Technology/Upper Moreland High School graduate, John Devlin Cerino, is preparing to graduate from the Divers Academy International in Erial, NJ on January 26, 2012. For over three decades Divers Academy International has served as one of the nation’s leading commercial diving schools, providing an unsurpassed education in inland and offshore dive disciplines, including underwater welder training.
